The polished-aluminum fairleads are designed to be used with synthetic rope only, and decrease the possibility of fraying. When switching to synthetic rope from cable, it is necessary to replace the roller fairlead or hawse fairlead with a polished aluminum fairlead to avoid from pinching the cable and damaging the new synthetic rope from rough surfaces of the old fairlead that was used with cable.
